Summary
Under direction, develops, implements, monitors, evaluates, and supervises Visitor Services programs; ensures that facilities are maintained in a safe and compliant condition. Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff; and performs other work as required.
Supervision Received And Exercised
Receives direction from higher-level management staff. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Supervisor, Visitor Services is a direct supervisory level classification responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and supervising the operations, staff, and activities of Visitor Services to maximize service delivery to the guests. Performance requires the use of independence, initiative, and discretion. This classification is distinguished from the Manager, Visitor Services in that the latter is responsible for strategic planning and management of logistics for group gear hauls, group reservations, rates, financial comparisons and the hiring for visitor services.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

Helps develop, implement, monitor, evaluate, and supervise the operations of Visitor Services.

Appropriately resolve guest concerns that are escalated from the agents.
Oversees and supervises the activities of subordinate staff; assigns, trains, directs, schedules, and monitors staff duties; evaluates employee performance and initiates disciplinary actions when needed.
Responsible for the appropriate training of employees in assigned areas of responsibility. Plans and conducts in-service training programs; structures the evaluation and professional development of staff to ensure a high performing team.
Oversees the day-to-day operations of Visitor Services
Runs program reports, ensures accuracy and timeliness and submits to upper management

Performs opening and closing cash and sales duties
Provides information on Catalina Island and the Catalina Island Company to our guests and ensuring a positive guest experience
Works collaboratively with other departments; confers regularly with other supervisors and managers.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED
One year of relevant professional experience, with at least one year in a lead or supervisor capacity.
Any combination of training, education, and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of supervision and leadership, including work planning, assignment review, evaluation, discipline, and training.
Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Occupational hazards and related safety precautions.
Principles and practices of administrative procedures, recordkeeping, budgeting, and financial management.
Principles and techniques for fostering effective work groups, inter-departmental relations, and community partnerships while providing high level of customer service.

Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.

Ability to:

Quickly learn the various computer systems used by Visitor Services
Select, supervise, and lead staff, including planning, organizing, training, evaluating, and coordinating the work of assigned areas and working teams
Review work to be performed and identify resources necessary to complete the work

Monitor and enforce laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
Respond appropriately to changing situations
Understand, interpret, and apply all relevant laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures
Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments
Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships

Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.

Licenses and Certifications:

At time of appointment, a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record maintained throughout employment.

Physical Demands
Must possess:

vision to read printed materials and a computer screen;
hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio; bilingual English/Spanish preferred
finger dexterity needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator;
strength, stamina, and mobility to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time;
able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds;

Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, push and pull on a regular basis.

Environmental Elements

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise levels.
May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions.

Exposure to chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

Working Conditions
Incumbents may be assigned an on-call and irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
