IRONWOOD Business Consulting is interviewing potential candidates for a Safety Manager position. Our Client is a mechanical services firm that combines expertise in the mechanical services arena with more than 25 years of industry experience. They serve all sectors of the oil and gas industry, upstream, midstream, and downstream to operators, contractors, and service companies and are based out of Odessa, TX.
Job Title: Safety Manager
Schedule: Monday-Friday, weekend flexibility, on-call
Salary: $100,000-$135,000, Dependent On Experience
Travel: 70% (job sites, other locations)
Reports To: General Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary:
The Safety Manager assists with the management of the day-to-day and long-term environmental, health, and safety compliance activities on-premises, and on individual project sites. This Safety Manager role will require a “boots on the ground mentality” and will also aide in the creation of a working partnership with all departments, foster an environment with the best practices necessary to drive business goals, and assist senior management on safety issues while working with limited support staff.
The Safety Manager is responsible for assisting with compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements for the Company and helps with all aspects of the Safety department including client requirements. The Safety Manager works with other Company employees in the implementation and monitoring of all safety programs and processes and represents the Company during audits with customers and regulatory agencies. The Company provides certified welding, fabrication, labor services, supplies, and rental equipment to oilfield operators and drilling contractors, and it is expected that the Safety Manager adheres to Company regulations and standards.
Essential Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily:

Drives cultural change within the organization and improves the Company’s performance as it relates to safety and safety culture. Aides in the development and implementation of strategic solutions supporting management’s efforts to improve and maintain compliance as required.
Serves as company representative during regulatory compliance inspections and performs routine site safety inspections.
Provides guidance on health and safety and confirms project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations.
Research developments in safety technology and recommends new equipment or methods to operations management. Coordinates safety trainings for new employees and refresher trainings for existing employees.
Conducts regular field audits to verify that information is being transmitted. Coordinates safety training requirements and trains appropriate employees on these programs.
Conducts facility risk assessments and workplace inspections to eliminate, minimize, and control existing and potential hazards. Coordinates and implements safety violation guidelines and investigates, verifies, and resolves compliance issues.
Facilitates incident investigation process and analyzes incident and accident data to determine the root cause and potential process changes while working alongside management to recommend corrective actions and measures. Communicates all findings, concerns, and deficiencies to the responsible department to make timely and necessary corrections. Follows up with management to ensure corrective actions and measures have been taken.
Supports and communicates policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines to ensure best practices for the overall safety and health of the Company’s employees. Provides consultative guidance and information to Leadership Teams on safety performance, priorities, risks, costs, major issues/concerns, and the interpretation of regulatory requirements.
Maintains extensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of safety management. Coordinates several safety functions such as training, recordkeeping, safety & health compliance. Collaborates on accident investigations and maintains accident register.
Assists with the coordination and tracking of employee training. Travels to other work locations to coordinate the overall safety program. Consults with management to ensure timely and efficient resolution of safety issues.
Participates in executive, management, and Company staff meetings and performs other duties as required or assigned which are within the scope of the job.

Qualifications:
To perform the job successfully, the requirements representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required include the following:

Education/Certification – A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, is preferred. Safety management certifications will be considered in lieu of degree, such as CSM (Certified Safety Manager), COSM (Certified Occupational Safety Manager) or like certification.
Experience – 5+ years of progressive Safety management experience. Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment. Experienced in conducting post-accident investigations and preparing reports identifying root causes and potential hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; author reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, clients, customers, and the general public.
Knowledge of Google Suites, Microsoft Suites, and Cloud and the ability to adapt to the company’s desired platforms.
Excellent organizational, record-keeping, and motivational skills. Handles several tasks concurrently with diligence.
Exercises a high level of discretion, independent judgment, and level of confidentiality.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has supervisory responsibilities, but some employees may be co-managed.
Environment:
The work environment characteristics and physical demands representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include:

This position will operate from the corporate office but will require extensive local travel to job sites, and travel to East Texas locations.
Normal operating conditions could be during the day/night, in outdoor hot/cold weather, and/or wet conditions. Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate but may be loud at times.
The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see. Employee will frequently be standing, stepping, lifting, climbing, overhead reaching, balancing, kneeling, crawling, and bending.
