Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost and working closely with the Faculty Fellow for Program Improvement, the Program Improvement Coordinator assists with the oversight and support of University-level assessment, focusing on the five WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) Core Competencies of writing, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, oral communications, and lifelong learning, plus diversity learning as a sixth competency. The Program Improvement Coordinator will provide support to the Academic Assessment Council (AAC), which provides direction both for institution- and program-level assessment at Cal Poly. The coordinator will work with the faculty fellow to provide support to the academic departments for the assessment of program learning objectives, and with the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) to provide assessment workshops for faculty. As divisional capacity grows, this position will support the work of the faculty fellow to extend an outcomes-based assessment approach to faculty development/student support programs and academic subprograms (minors and certificates). Working with the faculty fellow, this position will help coordinate research, programming, and outreach initiatives that focus on furthering a culture of program improvement based on the regular review of strategic action plans and consideration of essential program data.
This is a temporary, one year position, with the possibility of extension.
Department Summary
The office of Academic Programs and Planning (APP) is a key component of the division of Academic Affairs. Its mission is to promote student success through partnering with faculty and staff to develop, deliver, and continuously improve academic programs; collaborate with the Academic Senate to develop, implement, and review academic policies; and engage campus leaders in strategic and enrollment planning. APP’s responsibilities include facilitating academic planning for new and existing degree programs, managing the accreditation and program-review process for all of Cal Poly’s academic programs, managing the assessment of student learning, providing administrative oversight for the University’s General Education and Instructionally Related Activities programs, implementing system-wide, California State University initiatives, and creating reports to meet all accountability requirements.
Key Qualifications
General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Academic Affairs field and the current issues facing college units in particular and higher education in general.
Demonstrated ability and aptitude for data analysis, assessment/analytical software, data sorting/matching, and results interpretation.
Demonstrated ability to provide administrative support to high level managers.
Demonstrated ability in using statistical and other analytical skills for designing informal and formal learning assessments, interpreting results and making recommendations for future planning.
Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Five (5) years of general office support experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience.)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $46,224 – $60,348 annually
Classification Range: $44,172 – $72,408 annually
