Firefly is headquartered in Cedar Park, TX.SUMMARYThe Engineering Manager will be responsible for collaborating with other departments to design, operate and maintain launch infrastructure required to launch the Alpha launch vehicle at Vandenberg SFB, CA. You will be an integral part of developing and training the team of launch engineers, managing site system schedules, as well as coordinating activation, upgrades, operations, and maintenance of systems. The ideal candidate for this position possesses proven leadership skills for dynamic, multi-disciplinary teams, as well as a keen ability to solve technical and managerial problems.RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct and supervise the activities of launch pad engineering team during development, construction, activation, upgrades, operation and maintenance of launch site equipment and systems, including the compliance approval process with VSFB.
Strategically plan and manage engineering tasks and allocate resources to various pad systems tasks, including both budget and personnel.
Oversee the following launch support systems; Fluids, Instrumentation, mechanical/Structural Ground Support Equipment.
Provide direction to the launch engineering team for development of activation, launch and maintenance procedures.
Support development of company processes, guidelines, and training in test and launch.
Maintain a safe work environment.
Travel to test and launch sites as required to support the overall program.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired
Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering-related field
4+ years of hands-on experience with mechanical systems, structural systems, propulsion systems, fluid systems, flight hardware or test operations.
Strong familiarity with safety associated with ground systems supporting test or launch.
Outstanding leadership skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines
Desired
7+ years of experience with test or launch of launch vehicles and ground systems.
Direct experience with approval of launch vehicles and/or ground systems on federal ranges.
Experience with Air Force Space Command Manual (AFSPCMAN 91-710).
Exceptional troubleshooting skills.
Experience with fluid system design or operation.
Experience with mechanical/structural support equipment design or operation.
Experience with electrical ground support equipment, such as National Instruments hardware and software.
Working knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Vandenberg SFB, CA.
Must be comfortable stooping and bending, as well as standing for long periods of time to support test and launch day operations.
Ability to operate machinery such as forklifts and boom lifts a plus.
Must be able to work in varying climate environments, heat, cold, rain.
