Retorting involves the heat and pressure assisted sterilization of food products, like a home pressure cooker but on a much larger scale. This position will be responsible for loading retorts with uncooked pouched product to be cooked to the proper product sterilization levels.

Monday- Thursday 5:00 AM- 3:30 PM (10-hour shift)

Key Responsibilities (or Principle Accountabilities):

Load and move carts of product into retorts for the sterilization process; Unload completed retort carts, move and stage product for post-retort packaging in specifically designated areas
Continuously monitor cook times and critical information for each retort cycle
Record all required process information either manually or electronically
Report any process deviation in real-time
Review and confirm all critical factors are met for each cycle (chart & retort log)
Actively participate in new hires and continuous training in order to thoroughly understand and execute all retort controls and operations
Maintain check weigh operation and provide feedback to toyo operator
Account for waste and report for all areas of operation
Maintain the smooth movement of raw pouches from the robots to the retorts and from the retorts after processing back into the robots for unloading
Communicate exceptions and batch information to the both toyo and packaging
Adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety requirements and work safety protocol and requirements

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED.
Previous manufacturing experience required; Food Manufacturing/experience handling raw materials preferred
Must demonstrate strong mechanical and computer skills; Able to use touchscreen equipment
Able to push/pull large carts of product in and out of retorts – see physical requirements
Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions and processes and legibly complete documentation paperwork.
Excellent work ethic and communication skills, with the ability to work both individually and as a contributing member of a team.

Physical/Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to stand for extended periods of time.
Manual loading and unloading by pulling or pushing retorts cart that weighs approximately 1000 pounds are required.
Must also have the ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds, display good hand/eye coordination, and ability to bend, twist, reach, and grasp.
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment

Work Environment:
This position is located in a food manufacturing plant. Noise level is moderate-high. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The plant is not climate controlled and is subject to ambient temperatures, sometimes extreme heat (seasonal). Required to wear hair/beard net, face mask, hard hat, lab coat, safety shoes, and other PPE as designated.
