Nikkiso ACD is an engineering and manufacturing company specializing in machinery designed to operate at cryogenic temperatures as low as – 420 degrees Fahrenheit, the boiling point of Liquid hydrogen. For over 50 years, Nikkiso ACD has specialized in centrifugal and reciprocating pumps as well as turbines for air separation. Nikkiso ACD has the most diversified product line in the industry covering nearly every application requiring pumps or turboexpanders.
This position is based at Nikkiso ACD located in Santa Ana, CA.
Logistics Manager
Position Summary: Reporting to the Material Supply Chain Manager, the Logistics Manager is responsible for managing the process and employee(s) who track and maintain records of inbound and outbound shipments daily. They also create and manage the generation and ongoing coordination of shipping schedules, including communication related to shipping/receiving information across all internal departments and with external stakeholders as needed.
Essential Functions:
Manage and coordinate the tracking and maintenance related to daily shipments
Interview, select and hire other logistics related staff as needed
Coach and develop other logistics staff as needed
First line manager responsible for export compliance, including escalating any questionable situation to an internal or external subject matter expert as needed to ensure ACD remains compliant in this area
Review availability of inbound and outbound shipments / coordinate with Project Management and Purchasing
May design and implement new logistics related procedures and impact related policy design and implementation as well as make decisions connected to negotiating international shipping rates
Negotiation including signing authority to enter into agreements with carriers
Negotiate with freight carriers to maximize cost savings and efficiency on behalf of ACD
Daily management and coordination of shipments with customers and vendors
Establish and coordinate scheduled shipments
Track and trace all shipments and monitor load status
Maintain customer and driver relationships
FedEx, UPS or DHL AWB and BOL generation
Main point of contact for shipping carriers
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:
Working knowledge of Incoterms 2010 or similar program
Knowledgeable of international and domestic modes of transport
Ability to become forklift certified
Knowledge of geographic locations and the ability to calculate time and distance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Good communication skills via telephone and email
Must be a highly organized self-starter who possesses superior people management skills
Team player with proven ability to work well under pressure and constant deadlines
Problem solving skills with the ability to seek alternative solutions for dilemmas and problems
Strong attention to detail with excellent follow-up
Can quickly learn new skills and collaborate where needed
Travel between the ACD facility locations as required. Candidates will be required to show a driving abstract with a clean driving history for travel between the ACD facility locations and client offices as required. A valid driver’s license is necessary.
Experience and Education:
5 years’ experience shipping, logistics, import/export
Previous experience managing people is strongly preferred
Current knowledge of D.O.T. regulations
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Encompix and Google Docs
