In addition to behavioral health services, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, accessible pharmacies, housing and supportive social services. Through the Altshuler Center for Education & Research we are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County.
JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Metrocare programs focus on the issues that matter most in the lives of the children, families, and adults we serve.
The HIM Coordinator will assist the assigned Program Managers and Central Administration in the proper functioning of health information management functions at the program sites. This role is expected to be a critical part of the local program management team. This includes the development and refinement of health information procedures at the clinic/program sites, including training HIM staff, assisting with required records functions, monitoring, and reporting on record standards and key performance indicators, and communication activities to responsible managers while protecting the confidentiality of individuals served.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide direction, guidance, and support to the HIM Department staff including assigned support staff.
Monitor and report on clinical records services and staff performances at the assigned programs to program management and the core process leaders.
Assist and perform record audits for program sites; create and distribute summary reports of findings on an ongoing basis.
Coach/train health information management staff at assigned units.
Provide support between Metrocare and Release of Information Vendor.
Provide support with the process of subpoenas and managed care requests.
Maintain security of health information systems and medical records.
Identifies and reports compliance issues.
Assure the conversion from paper records to electronic records.
Assist/coordinate Forms Inventory and Supply Inventory Process.
Work closely with the Program Directors, site managers, and core process leader to address circumstances and problems to maintain efficient, supportive operations.
Serve as a backup to all work function in the permanent file area when there is no other staff to cover.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an Accredited Health Information Technician program. One to two years experience in the mental health/intellectual and developmental disability services, decentralized ambulatory or long-term care setting is preferred.
Associates or Bachelor degree in Health Information Management (HIM), is required.
RHIT or RHIA certification required.
General knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Basic math skills required.
Ability to work with reports and numbers.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Ability to utilize Internet for resources.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment.
Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Centers liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
RHIT Certification and active membership with the American Health Information Management Association; and the Texas Health Information Association.
