Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Position: Fundraising Director
Salary: $90,000 – $120,000
Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Project Director the Fundraising Specialist will create and enhance and maintain relationships with potential donors to ensure current and future funding by educating those who understand and care about the organization’s relevance to the community. The Fundraising Development Specialist will develop plans and implement marketing programs and special events to maximize prospect/donor engagement.
Essential Job Functions:

Develops and executes ongoing strategy for qualifying donors to ensure retention, growth of donor contributions as well as recapture from previous donors.
Responsible for minimum annual fundraising goal tied to segmented or blended portfolio as specified in performance standards, including both renewable gifts and new incremental revenue.
Identifies potential planned giving prospects among assigned donors and partners with region’s assigned Gift Planning Officer to solicit those prospects.
Negotiates with grant sponsors and seeks to ensure that both parties have understanding and agreement about special details.
Contacts each past donor at least annually, and maintains an active list of potential donors who are in the various stages of being cultivated.
Maintain a positive and on-going relationship with current private and corporate donors.
Works with research staff to obtain their understanding of the necessity of following proper procedures in achieving project goals.
Monitors financial administration of grants to ensure that proper documentation is submitted for expenditures and that requests for funds are made within time limitations specified.
Identify and target groups and businesses to introduce and present information on the organization’s resources and services.
Assist in development of agency response to funder requests, including but not limited to: data requests, program reports and site visits.
Ensures that each year: at least $200,000 is raised from individual donors, at least $100,000 is raised through foundation grants (excluding demonstration grants), and that corporate sponsorships are sufficient to underwrite the costs of any/all agency-wide fundraising events.
Participation and support with the annual fundraising campaign(s).

Qualifications:

Minimum of five years’ experience in fund development for a behavioral health agency preferred but not required;
Strong knowledge of behavioral health, including trends and evidence-based practices preferred but not required.;
Must be comfortable working outside the agency representing at meetings, activities and public events.
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion;
Attention to detail;
Ability to work well in a team environment and generate staff enthusiasm for development;
Knowledge of electronic data and application submission.
Valid California Driver’s License and proof of personal auto insurance required.

(Hire is contingent upon agency insurability);

Must be able to pass a criminal history background screening (DOJ and FBI); as well as maintain a yearly CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, physical exam, and Tuberculosis test results.

Education:

Degree in Business, Communications or Public Relations (required).

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office building and at public functions;
Attendance to meetings, activities and events. Indoor and possibly outdoors.
The ability to work evenings and weekends to meet deadlines

Must be able to pass the following pre-employment screenings:

Background check, including criminal history (LA CADA considers all applicants equally and will take into account each applicant’s individual life circumstances).
Drug and health screen, including negative TB test
