The Executive Director will guide the implementation of a vision and strategy for the organization’s long-term growth and will provide strong leadership for the board, staff, and the community. The Executive Director is charged with enabling Dell’Arte to realize its goals for artistic excellence, community service, education, financial stability, fundraising, and audience engagement. Through collaborative partnership with Dell’Arte’s Program Heads, and Guest Artistic Directors & Producers, the Executive Director is responsible for rendering these multiple visions into practicable initiatives that are financially sound and supported, and which galvanize the board, staff and extended community behind it and recommend changes as needed.
The Executive Director works closely with the Leadership Team and Program Heads to oversee overall business, administrative, and operational management of the company. This includes providing leadership and direction for fundraising, budgeting, financial management, HR, information systems, institutional marketing, and engagement. .

Status: Exempt |Regular Full Time | 12-months
Salary Range $60,000-75,000
Job Objectives
1. Creating a collaborative, effective, goal-oriented, and positive team of staff, board members, volunteers, and interns
2. Advancing the 21-23 Strategic Action Planning (SAP) Goals & Objectives and developing revisions as needed for next SAP.
3. Developing new and sustainable financial resources, including a future capital campaign for program and facility development
4. Restructuring financial and operational procedures to ensure they are compliant and secure.
5. Ensuring the systemizing and maintenance of smooth, efficient and effective theatre and school operations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Board:
a. Serve as the president of the Board of Directors; prepare agendas, reports, financial reports, and work with board members; organizes documentation
Provide staffing support to the BOD in its oversight and governance role, recruitment of new members and other advisors, and to keep policies and procedures up to date;
Participate in BOD meetings, coordinate and participate in strategic planning
Assists the Board Co-chairs in the development of Board meeting agendas and publishes timely reminders with documentation to Board Directors, Personnel, and stakeholders.
Works as a liaison between Dell’Arte’s Board of Directors and Staff to achieve strategic goals.
Communicates regularly with the Officers of the Board to keep them abreast of organizational activities through online correspondence, phone calls, and meetings.
Overseeing the administration of various Board directives and activities.
Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth helping to implement organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning
Work with the head of school, PTP leader, Co-Artistic Director(s) and board to plan and implement organizational goals and priorities.
Develop actionable business strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the CLC School, Artistic & Board Leadership
Work collaboratively to create effective communication with program heads and leadership in setting and driving organizational vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs
2. Operations:
a. Oversee company operations and employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture, ensuring team members thrive and organizational outcomes are met.
b. Is accountable for the successful oversight and management of all administrative affairs within the organization; maintains clear and consistent communication. The three main areas of administration to oversee and manage are:
i. School Administration:
1. Serve as the primary designated contact with the Department of Education
2. Supervise the Financial Aid Manager on Title IV compliance, reporting, and processing
3. Oversee all State and Federal external reporting
ii. Finance/Business Administration:
1. Serve as check signer for the organization on all Organization Bank Accounts
2. Supervise Finance Staff
3. Work collaboratively with Controller to develop, implement, and maintain internal controls on accounting and financial procedures
4. Generate reports and analyze/manage cash flow
5. Authorizes expenditures according to policies
6. Aggressively manage capital investments, and expenses to ensure the organization achieves targets and goals relative to growth, sustainability, and profitability
7. In partnership with the Head of Professional Training Program and other Artistic or Arts Engagement program heads create, maintain, and manage effective budgets based on current and future revenue sources
8. Monitor performance with tracking and establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports, both current and forecasting
9. Adhere to company, federal, state, and local business requirements, enforcing compliance and taking action when necessary
10. Procure, negotiate, and execute contracts and contract service agreements
11. Oversee the successful execution of a facilities strategic action plan and oversees facilities staff and contractors
iii. Organizational Administration:
1. Analyze internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement
2. Directly oversee operations, HR (temporarily until an Operations Manager is hired), and accounting, and partner with the Board on revenue generation to budget for sufficient investment capital to achieve growth targets over the near term
3. Facilitate effective communication systems amongst staff, faculty, board members, and other constituents to inform them of organizational decisions, policies, strategies and reporting structures as necessary to the functioning of the organization.
4. Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention
5. Oversee reporting to external stakeholders including but not limited to Grant Agencies, SMUArts Data, Donors, etc.
6. Safety and Security of the Building; manage and further develop a facilities plan
7. Provide Operational oversight for Facilities Manager, Booking Manager, and Production Staff to ensure a successful production and presenting season
Fundraising & Development:
Setting and establish fundraising goals, targets, and priorities
Oversee and work closely with the Development Director to achieve fundraising goals, develop partnerships, and strategies.
Attend & Participate in Development Committee meetings.
Cultivate strong relationships with institutional donors, corporate partners or donors, and establishing long term contacts for the organization
Grants:
Grant Management
Ensures data collection and assessment methods are in place for all grant funded programs in collaboration with faculty and production staff as needed.
Compose grant evaluations and reports and submits them on time to various funders and agencies.
Is responsible for ensuring that financial coding, accounting, and reporting is consistent with grant contracts and purposes.
Grant Writing
Responsible for putting together grant proposals or facilitating grant proposals for the organization, its programs, and employed artists and faculty members in residence
Collaborate and oversee other grant writing consultants and delegates responsibilities as appropriate to different staff
Supervises and works closely with the Development Director
Grant Prospecting
Responsible for prospecting new grant opportunities and applying for grants; delegates grant writing, research, and prospecting as appropriate
Looks for opportunities to diversify grant funding, grow support for new and existing programs, and fund school and general operations

Experience with accredited schools and facilities is highly desired.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:
BA, BS in related field required
MA, MBA or MS in related field preferred
3+ years of experience in executive administration, management, or leadership
3+ years working in nonprofit
5+ years of professional experience working in theater and theater productions, professional experience as a director and in devised theater experience preferred
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving clearance
First Aid Certification (up to date)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages approximately 3 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 21 employees in Production & Facilities, School, and Community Engagement areas. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these areas. Also, directly supervises 2-3 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies & applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and terminating employees when required.
