SSSD has an opening for a Director Engineering 2 – Systems Engineering to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Redondo Beach, CA.

As the Director for the System Engineering (SE) organization, you will report directly to the SSSD Engineering Vice President. You will be responsible for the technical leadership, people leadership, and supervisory responsibilities for approximately 1400 engineers. You will provide organization vision and management of engineering and supporting personnel in the disciplines of Communication Systems Engineering, Mission Payload Systems Engineering, Space Vehicle Systems Engineering, Specialty Engineering (including Radiation and Reliability), Mission Systems Engineering, Modeling and Simulation, Cyber Systems Engineering, Requirements & Verification, and flight operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience across different aspects of System Engineering including system architecture, program management, SEIT leadership, proven record working development programs through system integration and test, verification and validation experience. In addition to understanding the technical domains of System Engineering, this position requires experience in functionally managing large teams of personnel and alignment with leadership and company goals.

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

Provide technical and people leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of all major disciplines/functions within System Engineering
Responsible for long range planning and all aspects of functional homeroom performance, including performance management
Provide ownership for the people, processes, and tools that support SSSD captures, program execution activities, including managing and integrating SE recruiting, employee development, employee engagement, skills development, NCTA efforts, staffing, process and product development
Responsible for the continued critical skill/infrastructure build-up for SSSD System Engineering organization
Oversee program/project reviews, lead Independent Review Teams for key customer milestones such as SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, etc., responsible for SE process improvement plans, proposal review, and commitment authority for SE scope of work.
Ensure application of sound System Engineering processes during capture, conceptual, design, qualification, manufacturing, integration and test of systems in the SSSD portfolio
Responsible for special assignments include proposal activities, independent technical reviews, program startup reviews, anomaly resolution and technical audits
Ability to work well with a team and possess excellent written and oral communication skills

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) field from an accredited institution
15 years of engineering, project management and/or functional management experience
Experience in leading SEIT teams, and Space Systems
Active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance AND SCI clearance/access with a recent Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Engineering or other STEM field with 15 years of project and/or functional management experience
Experience implementing action plans utilizing metrics and/or root cause/corrective actions
Familiarity with SSSD Engineering processes
Experience leading a large functional or program organization

Salary Range: $237,800 USD – $356,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
