SUMMARY: This position serves as an essential member of the Law School team and has direct reporting responsibility to the Assistant Dean of Admissions. Primary responsibilities include coordination and management of admissions services, training and supervising the Student Ambassadors, review of applicant files, and individualized counseling. This position provides leadership and direction for recruitment and frequently interacts with faculty, alumni, current students, and career development professionals; and works collaboratively with the Assistant Dean to evaluate current recruitment activities and develop new marketing and recruitment strategies including development of Web and printed promotional materials. The individual works as part of a team to annually recruit a highly select and diverse student class and plays an integral role in all aspects of the Law School’s admissions process, including recruitment, evaluation, and selection of applicants for admission.
This position participates in creating ways to increase applications, and establishes relationships with community and law school entities to promote South Texas, and provides advising services to prospects, applicants, and occasionally prelaw communities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Represent South Texas at recruiting events throughout the country and maintain reports of various recruitment events. Spearhead “outreach” events and programs in an effort to market and advertise South Texas. Coordinate private visits with student groups and prelaw clubs and ensure successful implementation of these recruiting events
Contribute to the development of admissions strategies, policies, and procedures, including maintaining compliance with American Bar Association standards.

Review applications thoroughly; interpret and evaluate the academic credentials of law school applicants; administer admission decisions in conjunction with the Assistant Dean. Establishes innovative ways to increase the quality and quantity of law school students to ensure a diverse and well-qualified entering class.

Communicate with admitted students about their acceptance to South Texas, and to answer any questions the admitted student may have.

Assists with the development of a social media and digital recruiting plan and manage this process to help build a talented and diverse study body.

Manage special projects and other activities as assigned by the Assistant Dean.

Assist the Dean of Admission in tracking the effectiveness of recruiting efforts and making recommendations regarding future events.

Assists in training support staff, work study students, and Admissions Committee Members, as necessary, with regard to all admissions software. Plan and implement recruiting, selection, and training of 1L Student Ambassadors.

Serve as liaison to the Law School Admissions Council for database issues, problems, and new opportunities.
Manage the collection and input of all information required to complete the American Bar Associate (ABA) Annual Report, other annual questionnaires, and reports for accreditation agencies, as well as supporting Barbri with data on the part-time programs.
Assists with fall and spring orientation by participating at the event and assisting in the coordination of the program.

Enter and push scholarships to Banner; working closely with Student Services to ensure accuracy and adjust to any changes in the scholarship process.

Assists with the implementation of the Presidential Fellows Program as needed.

Assists in implementing new and on-going projects with EAB (or any other vendor) to increase the size and quality of the applicant pool; includes developing a strong marketing campaign as data is provided from EAB.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B. A. or B.S.) required, J.D. preferred. Minimum 3- 4 years’ work experience in a professional role within higher education student services (e.g., Admissions, Financial Aid, etc.) or in a related professional service environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, faculty, prospective students, other clients, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic math essentials.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to travel approximately 30% of time, frequently involving extensive overnight stays.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Occasional light to moderate lifting from floor level, at waist, and above shoulders required. Infrequent bending and stooping necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread; distance vision in order to recognize and assist visitors to the department.

Fast paced, multi-tasking, non-smoking work environment. Must be able to work under pressure, meet established deadlines, and exercise tact when dealing with challenging situations. A high degree of personal integrity, excellent judgement, positive attitude, solid verbal and presentation skills.

PowerPoint, Excel, and databases preferably in Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Dynamics.

Must be able to work the general business schedule of the Law school (9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) plus occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
